A Kadnse candle is not a race. It is an invitation to slow down — to notice the fragrance as it changes from the first cool note of the top to the warm, settled depth of the base. But to experience all of that, your candle needs a little care.
The first burn is everything
The most important thing you will ever do with a Kadnse candle is the first burn. Coconut and rapeseed wax has memory. If you extinguish it before the melt pool has reached the edges of the vessel, it will tunnel — creating a crater down the centre and leaving a ring of wax around the sides that will never melt.
Allow your candle to burn for two to three hours on the first use, until the entire surface is liquid. After that, each subsequent burn is much more forgiving.
Trim the wick before every use
A wick that is too long burns too hot, produces soot, and shortens the life of your candle. Before each use, pinch or cut the wick to 6mm. You will notice the flame is calmer, the fragrance throws better, and the glass stays cleaner.
Never burn for more than four hours at a time
Four hours is the maximum for any single session. Beyond that, the vessel heats excessively, the fragrance degrades faster, and the wick begins to drift. Give your candle — and yourself — a rest.
Keep away from draughts
A flickering flame is a stressed flame. Draughts cause uneven burning, increase soot, and reduce burn time. Find a still corner for your candle, away from open windows, fans, and air conditioning.
Know when to stop
When 1cm of wax remains, it is time to retire the candle. The vessel makes a perfect small planter, pencil holder, or trinket dish once cleaned with boiling water.
With these habits in place, your Kadnse candle will burn cleanly and evenly from the first strike to the last — giving you every hour of fragrance it was made to deliver.
